Leaving a gift in your will
The safest way to ensure that your estate goes exactly where ‘you’ want it to go, when you are no longer here, is to make certain that you have a professionally written will. Too often small and medium sized charities are overlooked and yet these are the very organisations that do the most, working tirelessly at the heart of their local community.
Don’t leave it until it’s too late, please email [email protected] if you would like to consider leaving our charity a gift in your will.
We promise to be there for the animals
We rely heavily upon the generosity of donations to fund our services. Gifts in Wills help us to finance the high running costs of the centre such as veterinary bills, food, bedding, heating etc –
we simply couldn’t do what we do without them.
Leaving a gift in your Will to Durham Dogs & Cats Home, however large or small, will help us to continue helping the needy animals in our care.
Your promise can help to make that possible
A LEGACY is a promise. A commitment from you that, on your death, all or part of your possessions (your “estate” in legal terms – including property, cash and other possessions) will be donated to a charity you have chosen and nominated in your will.
If you are currently making up a Will just inform your Solicitor of your wish to include us. If you would like to include us in a Will you have already made then your Solicitor will easily be able to make an addition (called a “codicil”) to the instructions you have already given.
Gift in your will FAQs
This is not a problem, If you want to add Durham Dogs & Cats Home to an existing Will, your solicitor simply attaches a written instruction, called a codicil. This must be done by your solicitor – don’t make changes yourself as you may inadvertently invalidate your Will. Further information is available from our ‘Guide to making wills’ available from our fundraising office.
